Pigtails Flat Ass Marathon
My goal was to run the 50k, but I decided to change to the marathon. I wasn’t even entirely sure about that because I strained my calf pretty badly on the Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon. Thank heavens for CWX pants! They kept that beauty feeling FINE the entire time! W00T!
The course was absolutely beautiful. We started near the Cedar River and did a short out and back of a mile, then ran to the Cedar River Trail and ran out and back again. The 50kers at mile 21.5 ran up a hill and down and then finished. If it weren’t for my shoes, I would TOTALLY have done it!
That was the only bad part. I was wearing older trail shoes and it really wasn’t a trail run for most of it. They were hurting from mile 9 on and I mean REALLY hurting. Good thing I have a high pain tolerance, and am easily able to take my mind somewhere else. But when it came back to my feet, wowsa. It felt like there were little knives in the insole, and the sides of both feet were being hammered by the sides of the shoes. Bruises on both sides, but no blisters!!
The best parts of the race were:
-Running another marathon with Marie!
-Running a marathon for the first time with Brian!
-Payday candy bars
-Betsy’s AWESOME butternut Thai soup…mmmmm
-Pink cookies with peppermint frosting
-The awesome Marathon Maniac Contingency
-The finish line when my feet were saying “NO MAS! NO MAS!”
-Taking OFF my shoes!
Next scheduled marathon in the Last Chance on New Years Eve. I am not positive about it because it’s in Bellingham and I’m running the First Call the next morning, so that’s a lot of travel in two days. I’d love to double, but I do have to think about the Goofy Challenge in three weeks!
