Jingle Bell 5k
What a fun morning! Met Kim, Tina, and Melissa at the park and headed into Seattle. We got there NICE and early for the 5k. We found a good parking spot and got to wander around and see some of the stuff. It soon got VERY crowded and I was worried because I wasn’t finding Nicole. Fortunately she emailed me and I saw it just in time to find her by the tree. She looked FANTASTIC! All dolled up for the run. So cute! I looked dorky in a Santa hat and Christmas PJs, but it was fun.
Roy was also walking this one, as his first post-surgery/accident 5k. He was excited to be out there and I was hoping he’d do okay.
Tina, Kim, Melissa and I took off in the first wave. I wanted to get ahead so I could cheer them in and get photos. My calf has really been bothering me and this is a hilly route so I took it easy. That wasn’t hard the first mile as it was SUPER crowded. But soon enough I was able to find my way through openings and passed a lot of people. We were in tunnels a lot, so I don’t know what my splits were. (Garmin did say my first mile was 7:27, but I think Garmin lied.
Route changed slightly since there is construction on part of the regular route, so we had a HUGE hill at the end. I was able to run it, but was worried as I hadn’t told my runners it was okay to walk up the hill.
Finished in 30:10, which is not anywhere near my normal 5k time, but that’s okay. I still felt pretty good on the run.
I was able to cheer in Tina, and Kim and Melissa and get photos of them running in. That was awesome! We waited around after and met up with Marie, then Carrie found us…and then she went to find Kathy who found us first…then Carrie re-found us again. Finally Roy came in with Brian and Kelly Kessler looking quite good! I was glad because we were freezing and were about to step into a Starbucks. Fortunately there are 500 of them in Seattle, or something like that.
Now it’s snowing and I’m hoping that the magic words “Snow Day” will be uttered early tomorrow morning. No not really…but a late start would be cool!
