Ghost of Seattle Marathon

This was marathon number 28 for me and it felt pretty doggone good! I met up with Marie so we could do the early start at 7 a.m. It was cold on the water with the wind, but overall the weather couldn’t have been better. This was a double out and back course along Lake Washington, put on by Scott Krell. For a $25 marathon, the organization and support was fantastic! Water stations were stocked with Heed, water, gummi bears, jelly beans, peanut butter sandwiches, potatoes, chips, crackers…it was awesome!
Marie always pushes me because her legs go almost up to my shoulders, so we were running pretty briskly from the get go. We ran 5:1 splits and took a long time at water stations gabbing and eating. I don’t normally eat on a marathon, but I can’t resist a peanut butter sandwich!
It was so awesome to run with Marie again! It has been a year since we ran together, last year’s Seattle Marathon. We stuck to each other until mile 23.5 when she was just out of steam. I was feeling good so she bade me to run ahead. I did mile 24 in 9:29, mile 25 in 9:30, and finished up really strong.. Of course I am NOT running another marathon tomorrow like she is! I’ll do that next year. :) Tomorrow I will support my wonderful WONDERFUL team that has so enriched my life the last 18 weeks. They will be doing their first half or full (and some of them their second or third half or full). I’m going to be volunteering with Roy at 5th and Dearborn making sure no one gets run over. Then I’ll start at the end and run towards them until I find them. Hope to run in at least the last 6 miles with them.
Awesome race with a bunch of Marathon Maniacs!!!!! Thanks everyone for the good times!
Next weekend Las Vegas Marathon!!
