Which of the following are good sources of vitamin D:

  1. Sun
  2. Unfortified milk
  3. Leafy greens
  4. Supplements
  5. Fortified milk
  6. Lean beef
Vitamin D is a vitamin that is not found in unfortified foods. Your body makes it when exposed to sunlight. You can also find it in fortified milks. Supplementation is an option, but since we only require a very SMALL amount of vitamin D you should NOT supplement if you have not had a doctor recommend it. If you suspect you are low on vitamin D get out and get some sun. Two days a week, 15 minutes at a time without sunscreen...no more. That's all you need. Don't buy supplements unless a doctor prescribes them. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, which means it can be toxic if you take too much. (Vitamins that are fat soluble are stored in your fat, not excreted in urine like water soluble vitamins...too much can be dangerous.)

So the answers are:
  • Sun
  • Supplements
  • Fortified Milk
