Rainy…and I mean RAINY, 13 mile run
What a fun morning. We met at Sbux on Marysville and caravaned to Seattle where Trista met us at Mt Baker Park. We joined every other training program in Seattle (it appeared) to run the hilliest (and prettiest) part of the Seattle Marathon so that everyone would know what to expect on this area that is full of switchbacks, corners, and hills. After we’d been running about 3 miles we started swimming. That lasted another 2 miles or so. Up up up up through Interlaken. Roy met us at the top at Delmar and provided bagels, chocolate, water, and Gatorade. We stood around and chatted some and then headed blessedly down.
About mile 8 it started to rain. About mile 8.1 it started to pour I think around mile 9 an ark passed us and if I’m not mistaken it was helmed by an old guy with white beard and a bunch of animals. Mile 10 we all started to grow gills… We gave up all pretense of avoiding puddles and just ran right through them. There comes a point where you really can’t get any wetter! My clothes had at least 5 pounds of water in them. Today’s rain would have tested even the BEST technical fabric in the world.
But on a good note, we don’t need to shower after our run! No salt residue and all of our clothes are nice and shower fresh clean!
Finished up just after the rain did. After the last runner swam in, joking that she might as well have run through the lake, we headed to Bluwater Bistro where the rest of our group was warming up in front of a roaring fire. (Note to self…fire good.) We filled up on scrambles and french toast…omg. The french toast there was HEAVEN on a plate! Grand Marinier batter, giant fresh marionberries. So good you didn’t even need the pure maple syrup (and I felt it might be tacky to just drink it).
Of course as soon as we came out the sun had broken and it was absolutely beautiful! Pffft! Oh well.
GREAT day with great friends! The only dark spot was that Cathy, Megan, Nicole, Sarah, and Cindy weren’t with us.
Let the taper madness begin!
