Could it BE any wetter out there??

Marathon group this morning…one texted me right away and said “Thanks, but no thanks” about running in the rain, but the rest who were able bodied showed up! We had a hilly route planned, but looking at their sad pathetic faces, I suggested an alternative route that would end the half marathoners at Starbucks, we could all have coffee, Roy could take the halfers back and the full who wanted more punishment could finish up with me. They all thought that was a GRAND idea. It was even grander when I mentioned I had chocolate for everyone, and assured the ones who hadn’t brought money it was on me.

So we all headed out together into the rain. It alternated between raining and pouring. Cathy and I ran up ahead, Erin and Shelley stayed together, Megan and Nicole were behind them, with Trista (who is the best Trista ever) brought up the tail end. We ran and talked some of the time, but the heavier the rain got the less we talked, I noticed. Then it would let up and the talking would begin again.

Made it to Starbucks. Roy had reserved tables and chairs for us, ’cause he’s the man. (He also found me bacon salt because he’s the man.) I ran back out to bring Trista in since I always feel bad when anyone has to run alone. Some people opted to keep running after we filled up, three decided to go back to the park, Cathy and I decided to finish our ten.

After everyone left Cathy and I headed back out in our SOAKING wet clothes (we were quite the scene in Starbucks…all of us dripping wet with goofy smiles on our faces). BRRRR! For some reason as we got towards the end of 88th I was heading to the wall. I rarely see the wall, but wow was I feeling bad. I finally had to let her know I needed to walk. We walked about 1/4 mile then it started to subside and we started to run again slowly. When the mile tweeped over, we’d run (with all that walking) a 9:56 mile (that was mile 9 for her 10 for me) so it probably was the combo of my stomach working on coffee and chocolate, running that fast, and being so stupid I didn’t Gu up or take any electrolytes. Finished feeling completely fine. After we said goodbye at the park I ran another .6 miles home for a 9:40 mile 11 even with walking into the park…go figure! For me, this is very fast especially on a longish run!

We missed Dana, Cindy, and Jacquie today! Now I am going to soak for three hours in a hot bath and try to get feeling back into my fingers before going to stand in line for an H1N1 shot. (They’ve released them to teachers now.)
