Tunnel Medal Half Marathon
It was all Marie’s fault. I wasn’t going to run it but she made me and then Betsy said she was making cookies and how can a girl resist a $20 half marathon with a bunch of maniacs where she has the opportunity to join Half Fanatics AND get Betsy’s amazing cookies, Marie’s company, and a really cool medal? So then we dangled cookies and mania in front of Lisa’s face and she fell to our peer pressure too.
Lisa, Marie, and I took an early start since Marie’s kid had soccer, Lisa’s kid also had soccer, and I have a husband who is advertising himself as a Marathon Maniac Widow. I really wanted to run the full, but had decided I should spend more time with my longsuffering broke ass husband (he’s still broken so can’t do much). The half was a good compromise since we could then spend the rest of the day together.
BEAUTIFUL course…same course as the Mt. Si 50k, so I was familiar with it. The views were amazing. The morning was cold, though, and I am REALLY glad I brought a jacket. Dug through the van and found a purple mitten and a black mitten…ah well! Matching is underrated…just call me a 44 year old Punky Brewster.
Felt awesome the entire run…it was all up the first half, all down the second. Did have to stop a few times for photos because day-yum it was beautiful.
I was hoping for a better time before I realized it was a trail race That being the case, I am pretty pleased with 2:20. Not sure what my official time was, probably more but oh well.
After the run we all stood around and talked, ate brownies and cookies, and drank coffee. Roy ran out to Starbucks and got a traveler for us, so everyone had hot coffee at the end. Isn’t he the greatest? Yeah, I think so too.
