Rainy 11 miler
Marathon training this morning. It was POURING when I woke up, but had just fizzled to a drizzle by the time we hit the trailhead. Of course as soon as we started running it was POURING again! Ack! I really do not mind running in the rain, but this was really rainy and the jacket I’d grabbed was actually holding the water next to my skin keeping me cold. Oh well. We ran 5 down to the Arlington Trailhead and on the way stopped to ogle at two beautiful deer! They were so gorgeous and just stared back at four bedraggled, wet, sloppy women. LOL! I do not think they thought we were as beautiful as we thought they were!
On the way back the rain had subsided a lot so we were able to run in a little more comfort. My wonderful, longsuffering husband hung out at the Arlington trailhead with cold water. He took our jackets (much more comfortable, I warmed up immediately) and waited for Trista, our poor lone half marathoner today. He took her back to her car.
The way back I felt much stronger. We were hitting good 10-10:30 min miles the entire way. We talked a lot more on the way back, and even saw (among many dead things) a salamander crossing the trail! Oh he was so slimely cute! I skritched his back and he actually leaned into it and either loved it, or was so terrified he was having a little amphibious heart attack and that was the symptom. I’ll accept the former. We moved him to the side so he would not meet the fate of the poor dead snake we saw earlier (bike tire…sad) and ran on.
Finished 10.2 miles in 1:50. After Cathy, Dana, and Megan left I ran back out to meet Cindy and walk the last part back in with her.
I loved her suggestion for our shirts… On the front “I Drank the Koolaid” and on the back “runtoryrun.com” LOL! I like it!
